New Mexico Audubon kicks off the 109th Christmas Bird Count (CBC) season on Dec. 14 in Albuquerque. Other New Mexico CBC’s on the 14th include: Angel Fire, Clovis, Silver City and Zuni. Counts run through Jan. 4. Information on how to get involved in New Mexico’s counts can be found on their website.
According to the National Audubonn Society, “The data collected by observers over the past century allow researchers, conservation biologists, and other interested individuals to study the long-term health and status of bird populations across North America.”
I will be participatingn in three counts this year: Albuquerque, the Sevilleta Wildlife Refuge and Sandia Mountains.
